kNOwHATE Project at Practical Workshop
On September 15, researcher Rita Guerra participated a Practical Workshop and Knowledge Session organized by the District Nucleus of Bragança of EAPN Portugal / European Anti-Poverty Network.
In her session, titled “kNOwHATE – A Socio-Psychological Approach to Understanding and Combating Online Hate Speech in Portugal”, she presented the main objectives, results, and resources developed within the kNOwHATE project. The project adopted an interdisciplinary and participatory approach to analyze hate speech directed at racialized people, migrants, and LGBTI+ communities on social media platforms such as YouTube and X (formerly Twitter).
Rita Guerra also introduced some of the project’s tools, including an AI prototype for automatic hate speech detection and the #CortarOMalPelaRaiz awareness campaign, which features online resources, a podcast, brochures, and social media videos.
