Objectives
The kNOwHATE project proposes an innovative, interdisciplinary and participatory approach combining social and language sciences with cutting edge computer sciences techniques, aiming at: :
- offering a comprehensive understanding of the social-psychological and linguistic features of OHS;
- analyzing content and propagation of OHS and counter speech in user generated content (e.g., tweets) in Portugal;
- creating models for its automatic detection, informed simultaneously by scientific knowledge and the target groups own experiences and voices;
- offering culturally sensitive and tailored guidelines and tools for effective detection, prevention and countering narratives to be used by individuals, civil society organizations, and policy makers.
kNOwHATE will thus strive to combine solid scientific evidence regarding the factors underlying xenophobic, racial hate and sexual prejudice to understand OHS and OCS, with cutting edge data science techniques to detect it, and innovative digital media and communication tools to tackle it.
