Program Conference kNOwHATE Project

The overall results of the kNOwHATE project will be presented and discussed at the project’s final conference, which will take place on 9 July 2024, at 14:00, at Iscte-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa. Under the title ‘Online Hate Speech in Portugal: What Present and What Future?’, this event is free to attend, but subject to pre-registration via the following link

At this conference we will reflect on the present and future of online hate speech together with representatives of the main communities targeted by this discourse in Portugal (Casa do Brasil de Lisboa, Associação ILGA and SOS Racismo). The event also features guest speaker, hate speech expert Professor Sahana Udupa, from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and Professor Helena Pereira de Melo, from the coordination of the Observatory of Racism and Xenophobia.

The kNOwHATE project (kNOwing online HATE speech: knowledge + awareness = TacklingHate) is a consortium funded by the European Union (CERV-2021-EQUAL 101049306) made up of four Iscte research units (BRU, CIS, CIES and ISTAR), the Interactive Technologies Institute (LARSyS, Instituto Superior Técnico), INESC-ID Lisboa, Casa do Brasil de Lisboa, the Commission for Equality and Against Racial Discrimination, the ILGA Portugal Association, and SOS Racismo.
