2nd Academic Tertulia at the ISA Debates Prejudice and Hate on Social Networks

The Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) is preparing to host, on April 2, 2025, the 2nd Academic Tertulia dedicated to one of the most pressing issues of today: the impact of prejudice, violence, and hate speech on social media. The event, which will take place in the prestigious Noble Hall of ISA, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, promises an in-depth and enlightening debate on the dynamics and consequences of these phenomena in the digital world.

The tertulia will gather a panel of excellent speakers, each bringing their unique perspective and experience to enrich the discussion. In particular, the presence of Researcher Rita Guerra, Coordinator of the kNOwHATE Project, whose research work on the mechanisms of online hate speech, its effects on society, and combat strategies has been widely recognized, stands out. Her participation is eagerly awaited, given her vast experience and knowledge in the area.

The event will also feature the participation of Dr. Ana Paula Costa, researcher at the Portuguese Institute of International Relations of the New University of Lisbon (IPRI-NOVA), who will bring her vision on the political and social dimensions of hate speech, exploring its connections with polarization, disinformation, and online radicalization. Diogo Trindade, President of the ISA Student Association (AEISA), will complete the panel, representing the student voice and sharing their experiences and concerns regarding the digital environment.

The 2nd Academic Tertulia on Prejudice, Violence, and Hate Speech on Social Media is an initiative that aims to promote critical reflection and informed debate on a topic that increasingly affects society. The event is open to the entire academic community and the general public, providing a unique opportunity to learn, question, and contribute to building a safer and more inclusive digital environment.
